Catherine - Born & raised in San Francisco, Catherine has witnessed a great deal of San Francisco history first-hand. As a small child her father walked her out on the Golden Gate Bridge before it's opening day. (She rode across a couple of days later in a rumble seat). She attended the 1939 World's Fair on Treasure Island, christened a Liberty Ship in WWII, twice, she ran the Bay to Breakers run in San Francisco (a 10 k stampede of about 100,000 runners!). She attended UC Berkeley in the McCarthy era & San Francisco State College during the riots of the 1960s. She brings a unique perspective & a fresh viewpoint to her guests. Cathy, recently retired after a 42 year teaching career. She taught from kindergarten level all the way up to courses at the University of San Francisco. Though most of her career has centered in the San Francisco area she began teaching in the early 1950's in a small school in Alabama. Later in her life she taught prisoners at the maximum security San Quentin prison. Somewhere in the middle of all this, Catherine managed to earn a graduate degree in Education and one in Administration, raise two children & was even Road Race Queen of America! Aside from her work at The Golden Bear, Cathy spends her time writing short stories.

Amber - A transplant from Southern California, Amber now knows San Francisco better than most natives. Amber hosts the North Beach property and manages all of Golden Bear properties when George is in Sweden. Amber has over thirteen years experience in the hospitality industry in all aspects of the business.

Theodore Roosevelt Bear, California Bear Cub and Håkan Björn- Many guests leave us with fond memories of our three Golden Retrievers. Bear's father, Dash was owned by author Randy Schiltz (& The Band Played On). Cubby is the pup that loves to pose for pictures. If you watch closely you will see Cub as an extra in Ed TV starring Matthew McConaughey.  Håkan Björn is our newest addition. He was born in August 2004. His name is Swedish... Björn means bear!
